A Systems Analysis for Information System for CAPD Room in Y University Hospital
À̼÷Á¤/Lee, Suk Jeong
Abstract
Development of medical information system should not be delayed considering the rapid changes in the internal and external environment of medical health care system. Nevertheless, in most hospitals, the computerization in the nursing department is still not realized.
Development of an information system model of CAPD(Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis) room has been attempted as an OPD(outpatient department) information system, the purpose of which is reduction in the patient¢¥s waiting hours, furnishing necessary information to the patients, effective management of information and giving the efficient nursing care to the patients.
This study has been, performed, the subject being the CAPD room of Y University Hospital, by analyzing the CAPD room activities now being performed manually, deriving problems to be solved, and based on these, I have developed a CAPD information system model.
Computerization in the CAPD room has also been done within a practicable limit, as a part of general computerization plan of the Y University Hospital, which is now in the¢¥ making. Priority of selection was given to medical records of the CAPD patients and direct nursing activities among the many urgent items and these were first computerized.
The medical records included the database concerning the patient¢¥s economic, social and intellectual aspects and dialysis-related database. The direct nursing activities included the management of peritonitis, exit site infection and exchange of dialysate connectors.
The system development Life cycle by Davis was applied as the study methodology. There are five stages in this method : strategy planning development : system analysis : system design : system practice : and system evaluation.
This project applied this methodology up to the conceptual development of system design with the information system thus provided, it can be expected that nurses use more time in direct nursing care than in the recording chore, which render their activities more pertinent and accurate, and in view of hospital administration, much more time, manpower and expenses can be soared, resulting in the enhancement of general productivity.
At the system design, the feasibility following introduction of CAPD information system has been analyzed in terms of expected effects. The result of the analysis has showed there will be improvement of the function of the organization and increase of the intangible benefit that cannot be calculated in terms of money, and so the sufficient feasibility in the economic aspects is fully recognized.
When in the future the general hospital computerization is actually carried out, the computerization of part of the nursing jobs not yet designed should additionally be done and the study of the hospital information system that can lead to a support system for rational decision-making should be continued.
And in the process of system development, both users and the administrators should participate together from the stages of development planning to quickly comply with the changes of the informational environment.
Finally, it should be stressed that for the easy access to the computers, the systemic education for the computer users be provided beforehand.
